Georges Randal, un orphelin \u00e9lev\u00e9 par son oncle, a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 de son h\u00e9ritage par celui-ci. Pour couronner le tout, l&rsquo;oncle indigne a refus\u00e9 d&rsquo;accorder \u00e0 son pauvre neveu la main de sa fille, celle-ci \u00e9tant destin\u00e9e \u00e0 un homme plus riche. Pour se venger, Georges s&rsquo;introduit chez les parents du fianc\u00e9 et vide le coffre-fort de ses bijoux. Il rompt ensuite ostensiblement avec sa famille et commence une fructueuse carri\u00e8re de voleur et une existence marginale. De fa\u00e7on surprenante, il re\u00e7oit l&rsquo;aide de l&rsquo;abb\u00e9 Lamargelle.
